Bone broth has been used for centuries around the world and is touted for its many health benefits. It is said that bone broth is good for inflammation, weight loss, and healthy skin because it contains collagen. Bone broth has made a comeback and making it homemade is easy, inexpensive, and far better than the watered down versions from the grocery store. Here’s how to make it:
Start by taking 2 lbs. of bones, beef, chicken, pork, pigs feet, chicken feet, or a mixture of bones and roast on a baking sheet at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Place roasted bones in a large slow cooker and add 4 whole scallions, 2 stalks of celery with leaves, 2 whole carrots, 2 cloves of garlic, and 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar.
Note* Vinegar is necessary to help extract the collagen from the bones.
Fill the slow cooker with enough water to cover about an inch over the bones and vegetables. Cover and cook on low overnight 24-27 hrs.
Once the bones have finished cooking, allow to cool enough to handle and strain out all of the bones and vegetables and discard. Season the broth to taste with Better Than Bullion Beef or Chicken Base. Once completely cooled, cover and store in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
Drink the broth as often as you like or use in your favorite recipes. Enjoy and happy cooking!
