It’s sandwich night tonight and I wanted to make a Montreal Smoked Beef & Cheese sandwich on a crusty baguette. While my sandwich may not compare to those of Jeff Mauro (“The Sandwich King”), and who is also one of the stars on The Food Network’s The Kitchen, I do my best. We used to be able to buy Montreal style smoked beef at our local grocery store deli, but they stopped carrying it. Instead of driving to Canada for it, I am now able to get it at Harrington’s.
Start with Montreal Smoked Beef, a baguette, your favorite cheese, butter, garlic powder, and mustard.
You can use whatever cheese you like, I just happened to choose this merlot cheese, which is similar to a merlot cheddar.
Grate your cheese and set aside. Slice your baguette in half and spread with butter and sprinkle with garlic powder.
After bread is buttered and sprinkled with garlic powder, place under the broiler just to heat up the bread. Squeeze mustard on both sides of the baguette. Heat the smoked meat in a pan or the microwave and place on one side of the bread.
Next, add grated cheese to both sides of the baguette and place under the broiled to melt.
After melting the cheese put the two sides of both sandwiches together and slice in half or serve whole. I served ours with some English cucumber spears sprinkled with salt & pepper and some dill. Enjoy and happy cooking!
